Blog Post Week 5
- What did you learn this week?
This week I learned about ecology, specifically food webs and food chains. A food chain is something that describes who eats whom. It starts with a producer and then proceeds with the following levels of a consumer. These are primary, secondary, and tertiary. The different arrows in a food chain show the flow of energy and matter. A food chain is a singular path through an ecosystem and a food web is a more detailed relationship between each level.
2. Are you able to relate what you learned to what you already knew?
I do remember learning about food chains when I was younger. When we were looking at the food chains that looked like a pyramid I had recognized and remembered that from before. I was able to relate what I already knew about food chains and food webs to what we had newly learned today. My previous knowledge also helped me understand the definitions of both better.
3. How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future?
I really liked the activity we did with out group, when we created our own food chain with our group. It helped me visualize and was more hands on than just looking at different food chains. It also helped my knowledge with associating animals with the primary, secondary and tertiary definitions.
Hi Erica, I agree that creating the food chains with our groups gave me a better understanding of food chains in general. I will also be incorporating that into my classroom as well. Your post looks great!
ReplyDeleteHi Erica, I also really enjoyed getting to create our own food chains. I think just seeing it helped me to visualize and understand the material better, so I agree!!
